Aug 14, 2016: on a Sunday afternoon while standing in line for some free food on E. Hastings St at Main St, a fight broke out over someone budding in line. This happened on the steps of Carnegie Centre, which is a public community centre in the heart of Vancouver's downtown east side. While 2 Carnegie security guards stood idle, I stepped in to break up the fight and separate the two individuals. After things settled in the line, I turned my attention to the paid security guards who were fondling their walkie-talkies and told them rather bluntly that they should have stepped in instead of me. They disagreed, and I went back to waiting for lunch. 15 minutes later when I wanted to enter the Centre to use the internet, I was stopped at the door and told I was banned. I immediately turned on my phone camera, and recorded what you see here. Seconds after this clip ends I walked out the front doors. I didn't even make it one block away before I was chased down by Carnegie security and 2 police officers, who had been called in using the 911 emergency line by the woman in the video. No call was placed to police over the fight out front, but me voicing my objections to the way they handled the fight earlier was appearantly justification for an emergency call. Carnegie Security should verse themselves in the VPD campaign that has run all year with huge public ads called "Don't let non-emergencies compete with real ones"...anyone can learn more about this campaign here: https://www.ecomm911.ca/non-emergency...
